ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Thousands of people gathered Saturday in the northwestern city Peshawar to protest American drone strikes inside Pakistani territory and vowed to stop NATO supply trucks unless the attacks stopped.
The protest rally was organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the political party of the opposition leader Imran Khan, an outspoken critic of American drone strikes and the Pakistani military’s presence in the country’s border areas, where Taliban and Al Qaeda militants have long found a haven.
Addressing 10,000 to 13,000 flag-waving party workers and supporters from two allied political parties, Mr. Khan accused the United States of sabotaging peace talks with the Taliban. “There can be no peace unless drones are stopped,” he said.
Are you still a believer?
50 years ago, at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, second-in-command Vasilli Arkhipov of the Soviet submarine B-59 refused to agree with his Captain’s order to launch nuclear torpedoes against US warships and setting off what might well have been a terminal superpower nuclear war.
The US had been dropping depth charges near the submarine in an attempt to force it to surface, unaware it was carrying nuclear arms. The Soviet officers, who had lost radio contact with Moscow, concluded that World War 3 had begun, and 2 of the officers agreed to ‘blast the warships out of the water’. Arkhipov refused to agree – unanimous consent of 3 officers was required and thanks to him, the world was saved from being scarred badly.
His story was finally told, the BBC aired a documentary on it.

Realities of war
I don’t want to believe this is real.
It is very real. And it is happening right now. Don’t you dare forget it. People have no respect for warfare. They don’t understand the implications of using violence to deliver policy. So, I ask my followers to do a couple of things. I’d like you all to watch this cycle through for about 5-6 mins. Ask yourself the following questions:
- At what lengths do we go to stop this?
- How do you rationalize not going to war if images like this continue?
- Does more violence really curb more violence?
- Do we do nothing and accept this?
- If war put a stop to this, would it be worth it?
- War is obviously not a good thing, but can it be delivered with noble and moral intentions?
These are all rhetorical. There isn’t a right or wrong answer. I just want to get you guys thinking about whats going on in our world. Sadly, this isn’t new. And while the methods of warfare may have changed, the violence and the victims haven’t.
What an era to live in when you can bring images like this directly into your home hours after it happened.
people need to see more images of this shit, just so they can realize war is more than just words they can ignore and pretend isn’t gruesome
It’s not a video game. There are consequences.
Amnesty International just published the results of detailed field research on nine of 45 reported drone strikes that occurred between January 2012 and August 2013 in the Pakistan’s North Waziristan region—and found that the US might be responsible for up to 900 civilian deaths. The report is a microcosm of a program that has been on-going since the start of Bush’s second term, and has grown under the Obama administration.
